Neuromeres or segments in the hindbrain region that are of developmental significance. Shown to be lineage restriction units in that cells of adjacent rhombomeres do not mix with each other. Regulatory genes have been shown to be expressed in patterns in the developing hindbrain that relate to the neuromeric or segmentation pattern.
