Lowry assay

Lowry assay
One of the most commonly used assays for protein content - the paper describing it is said to be the most frequently cited in the biological literature. Depends upon the interaction of Folin-Ciocalteau reagent with tyrosine or phenylalanine. Proteins that are deficient in these amino acids (eg. collagen) will be underestimated and for this reason the Bradford assay is often preferred.
