Hensen's node


Hensen's node
(= primitive knot)
Thickening of the avian blastoderm at the cephalic end of the primitive streak. Presumptive notochord cells become concentrated in this region. May well be a source of retinoic acid that is acting as a morphogen in the developing embryo.
