Steroid hormones (both natural and synthetic) that promote gluconeogenesis and the formation of glycogen at the expense of lipid and protein synthesis. They also have important anti-inflammatory activity. Type compound is hydrocortisone (Cortisol), other common examples are cortisone, prednisone, prednisolone, dexamethasone, betamethasone;
