Protein (100 kD) of the intermediate filament family found in lens fibre cells. Binds to vimentin and co-assembles with phakinin to form the lens-specific intermediate filament system referred to as beaded-chain filaments. Filensin differs from other intermediate filament proteins in having a rather short central rod domain and will not, on its own, assemble to form intermediate filaments.
