erythropoietin

erythropoietin
Glycoprotein (46 kD) produced in the kidney and that regulates the production of red blood cells in the marrow. Higher concentrations are required to stimulate BFU-Es than CFU-Es to produce erythrocytes. Recombinant EPO is now being used therapeutically in patients.
