n. pl.; sing. -ula [L. dim. maxilla, jaw]
1. (ARTHROPODA: Crustacea)
The first maxillae having more than one pair of maxillae; paragnath.
2. (ARTHROPODA: Insecta)
In primitive forms, the non-functional appendages between mandibles and first maxillae; see superlinguae.
