gonapophysis
n.; pl. -yses [Gr. gone, that which produces seed; apo, from; phyein, to grow]
1. (ARTHROPODA: Crustacea)
In male Syncarida, a median process from the base of the first or second pleopod.
2. (ARTHROPODA: Insecta)
a. The slender curving processes that form the shaft of the ovipositor; may be leaf- or flap-like or modified to form the sting. b. Also applied to certain paired genital appendages in the male.
