articular
the deep, endochondral bone of primitive acanthopterygians in the middle of the lower jaw between the dentary and the angular (or retroarticular) which articulates with the quadrate. It is later invaded by the angular. Divided into the distal part (wanting in Teleostomi) and the proximal part. Occupies the position of Bridge\'s ossicles b and c in Amia. Found as a distinct structure in Amia, Lepisosteus, Polyodon and Acipenseridae
