Illustrious Il*lus"tri*ous, a. [L. illustris, prob. for illuxtris; fr. il- in + the root of lucidus bright: cf. F. illustre. See {Lucid}.] 1. Possessing luster or brightness; brilliant; luminous; splendid. [1913 Webster]
