OHG. egid[=i] horror, or L. hispidosus, for hispidus rough, bristly, E. hispid.] 1. Frightful, shocking, or offensive to the eyes; dreadful to behold; as, a hideous monster; hideous looks. ``A piteous and hideous spectacle.'' --Macaulay. [1913 Webster]
