halobacter halobacter, halobacterium halobacterium .; pl. {halobacteria}, or {halobacters}. Any halophilic bacterium of the archaebacteria group, expecially of the genera {Halobacterium} and {Halococcus}, which live in saline environments such as the Dead Sea or salt flats.
