Buckwheat Buck"wheat`, n. [Buck a beech tree + wheat; akin to D. boekweit, G. buchweizen.] 1. (Bot.) A plant ({Fagopyrum esculentum}) of the Polygonum family, the seed of which is used for food. [1913 Webster]
