Bistort Bis"tort, n. [L. bis + tortus, p. p. of torquere to twist: cf. F. bistorte.] (Bot.) An herbaceous plant of the genus {Polygonum}, section {Bistorta}; snakeweed; adderwort. Its root is used in medicine as an astringent. [1913 Webster]
