Refractory Re*frac"to*ry (-r?), a. [L. refractorius, fr. refringere: cf. F. refractaire. See {Refract}.] 1. Obstinate in disobedience; contumacious; stubborn; unmanageable; as, a refractory child; a refractory beast. [1913 Webster]
