Bait Bait (b[=a]t), v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Baited}; p. pr. & vb. n. {Baiting}.] [OE. baiten, beit[=e]n, to feed, harass, fr. Icel. beita, orig., to cause to bite, fr. b[=i]ta. [root]87.
